Track your stolen computer or mobile using Firefound

Track your stolen computer or mobile using Firefound

It has been long since we have touched a topic on Mozilla Firefox. This excellent addon that rightly won the Extend Firefox 3.5 competition has drawn my attention to bring it to our users. Firefound is a Mozilla Firefox and Fennec (Mobile version of Mozilla Firefox) addon that enables users to track your computer or mobile phone when it is lost or stolen. This extension excellently uses the Firefox 3.5’s Geolocation feature to save your current location to a secure central server whenever it changes. You can always log into the server to see the computer’s current location.

If by chance, you lose your Computer or Mobile with FireFound installed, you can first tell it to clear all your personal data including the passwords, browsing history, cache, cookies etc., to save your sensitive data from falling in the hands of culprits.Later, using the FireFound server’s geolocation data as a guideline, you can try to find its current location.

And the best part about this addon is that it is completely Open-sourced. So, you can run your own FireFound server and get your data logged there. This really helps to those people who are paranoid about their security and privacy , and are not comfortable with sharing their data on someone else’s server.
