Fake World Cup Trophy Awarded to the Indian Team ? No!! says ICC

While the entire country is basking in the glory of the World Cup 2011 glory of Indian Cricket Team, some media houses reported the news that the World Cup Trophy awarded to Indian Team was a Fake World Cup Trophy and the real World Cup is lying seized with the Indian Customs office. The reports claimed that the Mumbai Customs officials seized the Real Cricket World Cup trophy while being brought from Dubai. The Mumbai Customs told that the World Cup Trophy was seized for the non-payment of 35percent value customs duty. The Mumbai officials told that they will release the World Cup Trophy once the valuation is done and the 35 percent customs duty is paid back.

The ICC responded to the reports of the Fake World Cup Trophy saying that the cup that is held by the Mumbai Customs officials is the promotional World Cup Trophy that is housed at ICC office, Dubai. They said that the World Cup Trophy seized by the officials carries the generic ICC logo and used for promotional activities. Whereas the Real World Cup Trophy carries the ICC World Cup 2011 Logo and was awarded during the World Cup 2011 finals. So all the reports of a Fake World Cup Trophy are farcical and claim no truth behind it says the cricket governing body.
