Flash served with Google Chrome

Many of you might have already known what Google Chrome is. Google Chrome has this problem of installing it without administrator privileges and other stuff like portability and so. Portable Apps is a suite which tries to answer the problem through its suit of applications that could be run from a USB pen drive. One glitch in Portable Apps suite is that it provides support for only GPL licensed software. Though Google Chrome is not GPL licensed, some people have made an unofficial Portable Google Chrome version. But one lacking feature in it is that you don’t find Flash plugin in it and you can’t install flash directly using the official Flash installer. For installing the flash plugin in Portable Google Chrome, you can follow the below simple step-by-step procedure.

  1. Download  Flash Player .xpi version from the official Macromedia flash site.
  2. Rename the resulting flashplayer-win.xpi file as flashplayer-win.zip and extract it using your favorite compression software like WinZip or 7Zip etc.
  3. Copy the resulting flashplayer.xpt and NPSWF32.dll files into the folder < path to your Google Chrome>\Chrome\plugins folder.
  4. Restart your Portable Chrome browser to enjoy the flash plugin in it. You can check if the flash is installed by going typing about:plugins in the URL bar.

  • As a web developer, google chrome is a blessing in disguise. I can’t wait to see Chrome become more popular. With Internet Explorer quickly losing market share is soon to be a competition between FireFox and the little guys… :)

  • I have recently switched from internet explorer to fire-fox but i have heard a lot of good things regarding chrome. If they some how come up with plug ins like fire fox then i might convert.

  • Google Chrome is so cool i love the way it just keeps image views of your most commonly viewed sites. Flash Player was a bit funny at first but works well within Chrome now :)

I really like the look of Google chrome, but it lacks so many great plugins that firefox offers. I’m excitedly looking forward to the Google Chrome Developer Version.

  • i agree, i think that you really need to have plugins at this point in the browser war, thats why firefox is so useful. unless they make speed a priority then it’d be alright.

Got to agree with you totally on this. On a side note Google is coming strong with the new plugins feature for the Chrome browser. I am waiting for it :)

  • I was definitely looking for how to do this… right now I’m using Portable FF and the lack of Flash in Chrome was one of the reasons why!

  • I have only used opera mini on my blackberry but i would be interested in seeing the new capabilities of Google chrome on my phone. Thanks for the info – so much flash is used these days on the web it’s important to have all plug-ins when possible. :)

You got it wrong. Portable Google Chrome doesn’t mean a Google Chrome for mobile. Its just a Google Chrome that can be run from USB/Flash drive .

  • That is surprising that they would offer Google Chrome on a portable platform without the ability to view flash. Does not make too much sense to me.
