A small introduction To all those people who are ignorant about Buddypress.
BuddyPress is a suite of WordPress plugins and themes, each adding a distinct new feature. BuddyPress contains all the features you’d expect from WordPress but aims to let members socially interact.
In short, Buddypress strives to bring Social Networking to the Wordpress by building a layer above the Wordpress MU platform. This project has been in development for almost an year and has finally got a public release with Andy Peatling announcing the release of Buddypress in the blog.
As many of the visitors might already know that Social Networking the defining phase of New Media, the recent release makes it easier for anyone to run their own blogging based social networking site. Coupled with twitter, BuddyPress is going to rock the world of Internet and changes the way we use it. (Or atleast I hope so).

I tried to install this on my wordpress blog, but everything messed up. lol
I think it was because I used a plugin that install plugins directly from the control panel without having to upload.. I’ll try to do a manual upload of the plugin and see if it works.

Buddypress will need a lot more extensive marketing campaign before it can compete with big guys. Most people have never heard of it.

@maria , I didn’t really get the “compete with the big boys” comment. Are there other “Buddy-like” apps that you are referring too? I only know of a couple add-ons for Joomla/Mambo that could be considered competition.
@jeff I dunno what maria was referring to but, I know some like socialengine , dolphin etc.
Hello, honestly, I’m not quite familiar with Buddypress, it definitely needs more marketing and exposure. But, I really found it very interesting. So, I’m definitely going to try it out. Thank you very much for sharing this.

This really looks interesting, though I have to agree with one of those that commented before me that it needs marketing. Just because it’s a great tool doesn’t mean it’ll automatically be successful. And from what I can see, it should be.

Buddypress is the best version of wordpress.I have 2 site with it.
So with this plugin, i can change my boring old blog into a facebook wannabe ? Cool. Now all I need to do is figure how exactly, but that’s for me to worry about

Sounds a bit like the CCK for Drupal. Does this have any value, especially for small blogs? I’m not critical, just wondering if the features are worth the effort when you could build a custom social network using other platforms.

hehehe but its not so.. Its the fo the first time i came to know about Buddypress is from your post right now.I have checked out some features which are ubercool, but Buddy let become Buddypress everyone’s buddy..make it more popular dude!

is that so, i would love to try it, because at present i m using wordpress blog and i need third party tool to manage it, and it needs lots space and management, if pluggin can do everything that tool can do, then i would love to have it.

PHPBB is a forum, where as Buddypress is a wordpress alternative for a social networking site. How do you run ur autoblog on forum software?
