I know, I know! Most of you design buffs already know about this. But this tutorial is intended at those wannabe designers who are yet to experience one of the greatest masterpieces that combines the worlds of art and technology i.e., Adobe Photoshop . Every photoshop user will need the help of custom brushes to design their masterpiece. There are many a collection of photoshop brushes available over the internet. This tutorial provides with a definite tutorial to install all those custom brushes.

Follow the below steps to install the adobe photoshop brushes

  1. Download your favorite custom brush set. (You sure would know how to download right? :) )
  2. Most of the times, the download file is a compressed file like a .zip or .rar file. Extract the files from the archive.
  3. You will find some files with an extension of .abr . ‘abr’ is the extension for an adobe photoshop brush. Select and copy those files.
  4. Now, all you need to do is paste those .abr files in the right location. Find the location of your Adobe Photoshop installation. In windows systems it is more likely to be ‘C://Program Files/Adobe/Phosothop CS3′ .Find the folder ‘Presets’ in it. You will now have to find folder ‘Brushes’ in the ‘Presets’ folder and paste the .abr file there. If you Phosothop path is as givern above then the place you have to paste the .abr files will be ‘C://Program Files/Adobe/Photoshop CS3/Presets/Brushes’.
  5. Now start your Photoshop. If you might have it already opened, you should restart your Photoshop.
  6. Select the Brush tool.
  7. At the top right as shown by the cursor in the adjacent picture there will be a selector for brushes.Click the small arrow over there. A menu pops up.
  8. Now click the arrow on the top right corner of the new menu as shown in the figure. This should pop open another menu which contains the names of the brush sets you have installed. You can select any one of them you want. Photoshop gives some alert dialog asking for your confirmation. When you confirm you will have whole new set of brushes to choose from. :)
