I too have faced a lot of problems in downloading pdf files with firefox. Your post was very helpful to me and I am sure that it will also help a lot of other people. I think that it is hi time that firefox does some fixing up.

Great resources.. I have had some of the same problems.... after struggling with Safari,Firefox has been my saviour ...more and more add ons all the time.
